Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand, is a country in Southeast Asia. Located at the center of the Indochinese Peninsula, it is composed of 76 provinces, and covers an area of 513,120 square kilometers, and a population of over 69 million people. Thailand is bordered to the north by Myanmar and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, and Indonesia and India on the Andaman Sea to the southwest. The capital and largest city is Bangkok, which is Thailand's political, commercial, industrial and cultural hub. About 95% of the population is ethnically Thai, with the largest minority being the Chinese, who make up about 3.6% of the population. Other groups include the Malay, Mon and Khmer. Theravada Buddhism is the country's official religion, and is practiced by 94.6% of all Thais.
